More on Answers.com
Answers.com, launched in January 2005, aggregates over 5 million topics in categories including health and medical, legal, business and finance, science and technology, history, reference, and language. The information displayed by the site originates from brand-name publishers and other sources, such as All Media Guide, Barron's Educational Series, Encyclopedia Britannica, Houghton Mifflin Company, Oxford University Press, Who2 and Wikipedia. The company’s technology combines and presents targeted information from disparate sources and delivers answers to users' questions in a single consolidated view. An attribution of the data sources on each result page enables users to make an independent determination of the credibility and value of the offered content.
More on WikiAnswers.com
WikiAnswers is a user-generated content (UGC) community-based question and answer site where users ask questions on any topic as the collective community answers them. The structure of WikiAnswers varies from other popular Q&A sites, which facilitate a forum where users can ask and answer questions, often repeating the same question with different wording. Their users cannot improve upon or edit the questions or answers. WikiAnswers' approach allows the community to transform each question and answer into its own "wiki" page, a collaborative page that can be improved upon by others in the community. In this manner, good answers can potentially become better answers over time; related questions can be merged or linked to each other; and ultimately, the user-experience of the community is enhanced. Content generation is at the core of the company's business. The dynamics of UGC are highly scalable. The size of the community drives the quantity of the content; content attracts additional users, which in turn grows the community.
